Thank you so much for your lovely comment, sinningia !

Huzzah for you liking my Jack and thinking he is in-character. I found him very difficult character to write and it's deeply rewarding to know the result was worth the effort.

I'm glad the relationship between Gillette and Norrington showed in the right way, i.e. that you felt there was some link between the two but you could not pinpoint it in a specific term. This is just as it should be at this stage of the story ! :)

Your comment about Elizabeth made my day, because she proved as difficult to write as Sparrow, if not more. The sequels and the last squabbles in the mainstream fandom had made me forget how Elizabeth was originally portrayed in CotBP. Indeed, in the first draft of this chapter, she was definitely a heinous, selfish, all in all, rather mono-dimensional proto-piratical creature. Only in a following moment, during a conversation with another CotBP ficwriter, I realized how much my dislike of the sequels had biased my perception of CotBP Elizabeth and a massive rewriting followed. It'm relieved the result is well-balanced and in-character.

What a rant I made ! And to think that, at the start, all I wanted to say was thank you so much for all the lovely and kind things you said about this story and how I wrote it ! :)

I love it. Seriously. Jack is so perceptive and in-character and I really like the little glimpses of Gillette's and Norrington's... relations ;-)

Also, as we share the same view of Elizabeth's character I loved those parts too.
And your writing style is still as beautiful. It feels very in synch with the time period of the story!

Absolutely lovely done!

What is it about Navy Girls? They have such a knack for writing Jack! Wonderful, simply wonderful! Would the CAUTION: NAVAL OFFICER posters be posted up at the Pirate Post Office? XD I love the idea though! I love how Murtogg and Mullroy flit in and out of Jack's monologue and the lady with the mini-Dauntless on her head! Trés chic! I assume that James went to Beckett to parley for Jack's life and that didn't go so well. Poor Jack! Looks like "despirate" measures will need to be taken...

So much more entertaining than anything else on TV
It's relieving to know that Italian TV is not the only one in Europe to assume that people, at Christmas, develop a sudden crash of their IQ :D

I’m a firm believer that things find their own lengths.
Well, it's true that even in novels of great writers you find both long and short chapters, depending on the needs of the narration. It is also true what rexluscus was pointing out in LJ about the dangers of fleshing the characters and the situations with too much uninteresting period details. I mean, I'm finding very entertaining to imagine how the lives of my James and his historical "cousin Rodney" might have intersected during the Seven Years War, but from a narrative point of view, probably, all that is needed for Conversation is to put here and there some hint that my James started as a mid in the Channel Fleet and had the chance to fight against the French and the Spanish before being sent in Jamaica.
Well, I'll give chapter 2 a final chance during the holidays and then, whatever the length, I'll declare it finished and pass to chapter 3.

LOL, yes ! WP comments have this quality of randomness that adds to the general relaxation feeling. ! :D

Oh, excellent! I'm really happy to hear that the story as a whole is almost finished. That's great news :) I don't think you need to worry about disproportionate chapter lengths too much. I'm a firm believer that things find their own lengths. But again, this may be due to my impatience to read it :)

Speaking of Wordpress, I also almost like the treasure hunt aspect of looking for new comments! Of course, it's unfortunate that it means you sometimes don't get replies for weeks, but then again it turns them into an unexpected surprise.

We definitely need ads reading “I will have his head… for Christmas!” to promote sales of the heroic heads at this time of the year. ;)

LOL! That would so work on me! I really want to do it now :)

Gillette shouting at the unruly mermaids, Mr Norrington attempting to arrest Mr Sparrow hiding under the crib, Mr Groves shocking the singing angels with his naively indecent proposals, and Lord Beckett causing an uproar with his offer to employ the Holy Family to advertise the EITC Christmas Promotion :D

Oh, but that would be wonderful! So much more entertaining than anything else on TV :)

*g* That was perfect usage of ‘at that.’
*smug, very smug grin*

There is so much wank that it has become difficult to relax in.
Yes. But I fear trouble is only to be expected from a canon based upon characters that have been willingly trasformed into their dark self. *shakes head*

But I think both of us have been keen to get away from fandom for quite a while, and this seems like a nice clean break.
Indeed ! I'm not polite enough to survive in LJ without having a fight a day. ;) Jokes apart, when things come to the point that you've to endlessly apologize and explain for liking a set of characters, there is no fun left.

Can I be bold and suggest that you concentrate on writing chapter 2?
That's a very wise advice and I will follow it for sure. The problem is not so much that chapter 2 is not written. It is (at least in Italian, as well as about 80% of all the remaining story, ending included). But it's miserably short in comparison to chapter 1. And to flesh it, I need to re-read a Wooden World and finish reading a Rodney's life I found via Google Book.

I think that PotC and the AoS just parted company. At least, they did for those people for whom the AoS is all about the Age of Enlightenment, and the reason and heroism which is symbolized by the navy.
You hit the nail's head here. I had not thought of it in this terms, but you're perfectly right. And this supports my opinion that there is no way the fandom can be brought back to what it was and there is no place for AoS fans in it. CotBP had sort of a friendly wink for both pirates and officers, but the sequels, with their pretension at making a pirate epic, made the world - or I should say the seas :) - smaller (and less interesting).

About WP, another thing I like is that, if you post a reply in your blog, you're allowed to edit it afterwards.

Elegant setting for my fic ? That's very kind of you. Must confess I'm liking more and more the quiet of this place. I'm here, surrounded by the things and persons I like, talking and joking about the things I like. What can be better ?
