This is the first post I made when I opened my LJ account in June 2005. It can still be l considered a good explanatory introduction to my interests.
“My first entry. I’m really excited. The main reason that prompted me to open a livejournal account was my fascination (read obsession) with that wonderful movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: The curse of the Black Pearl”, and particularly with the marvellous (and gorgeous) character of Commodore James Norrington. Therefore, I wanted this first entry to be at the same time a memento of a very pleasurable experience and a sort of tribute to him. Three months ago I watched for the first time POTC and, as said above, it was first-sight love with the Commodore. A few days later I went to Ferrara, to see the exhibition “Joshua Reynolds: The Creation of Celebrity”, and entering in the second room of the show, dedicated to paintings of British military and naval heroes of the Georgian era, I found myself face-to-face with this magnificent almost real-life portrait of Admiral Rodney…
My first astonished reaction was “OMG ! But this is Norrington born to real life ! ”. More that the features of the face, it is something in the look of the eyes and the body stance that really bears an impressive resemblance. Details from the exhibition commentary to the portrait (http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/exhibitions/reynolds/roomguide2.shtm) further substantiated my feeling. Then, I made some historical research and found that Rodney even served for long time in the Caribbean ! (http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/static/pages/5804.html ). Really amazing !
Reynolds “The Creation of Celebrity” is actually in exhibition at the Tate Britain of London. I recommend it to all lovers of the Georgian era.

At present my main interests are anything related to the Age of Sail (be it novels, historical books, or fine arts) and, in general, anything related to the 18th and early 19th century.
I still love very much CotBP (not – a billion times underlined – NOT the sequels), with an elective focus for the pairing Gillette/Norrington (also known as Gillington) and what has been brilliantly defined the Royal Navy of the Caribbean. I’m also interested in Jack Davenport (the British actor playing Cmdr. Norrington) and Damian O’Hare (the Irish actor playing Lt. Gillette).
